Comments: | R 1827. MV splashes 1833, 34. R off 1835 to start R pause. Continuous MV splashing during pause. R on 1848 to end 13m pause. G 1852. Massive MV splash at 1857, by far the biggest non-eruptive splash I've seen. It came at least 5 feet out of the crater and sprayed water in all directions. At this point G turned off, but R stayed on. G back on 1900. A 1907. Water levels bad. By 1918 it looked like everything, including R, was off. Sudden restart of all vents at 1919 (new cycle?). Water levels gradually came back and by 1933 looked promising before dropping again. Small UM surge at 1942. More small UM surges at 1946, 48. R off for good 1953.
All in all, the most mystifying series of events I've seen from F&M. It was progressing nicely until the huge MV splash, which seemed to throw everything off. The event cycle ended abruptly and seemed to either restart or have a new cycle that carried some energy over. |
