16400 10 Oct 2020 @ 1236 --- cb pool in front of Veteran is a milky turquoise blue color. Splashes from Vetern are just barely making it over the crater.
16298 28 Sep 2020 @ 1422 --- bbev pool is up to 10-12 " below overflow, cloudy light blue in color.
12013 28 Jun 2019 @ 1016 --- ypcaribou Water level the same as 0643
12012 28 Jun 2019 @ 0643 --- ypcaribou Water level at edge of front pool down such that approx 2" of white shows inside crater on left front and white tip of rock at left side but away from wall is showing. Pool a chocolate brown (not from mud).
11617 07 Jun 2019 @ 0933 --- CrisG Pool dropping since last note. Approx 3 inches of white lining visible. No steam coming from pool.
11360 26 May 2019 @ 0619 --- ypcaribou Pool in front full to where maybe an inch of the white line of deposit on crater wall is visible
8883 21 Jun 2018 @ 0912 --- Polly The pool has standing water, with the side vent throwing water out. The "breathing" is a bit on the quiet side.
6154 09 Sep 2017 @ 0820 --- ypcaribou Large pool in front very dark, water level has dropped maybe a foot, and no splashes are falling in the pool. Still spritzing out the back. Huffing from side hole diminished in volume but still there.
78 14 Jan 2012 @ 1847 --- Graham Most beaded rocks covered with water and better minors than Sept. Still some snow in pool so suspect its not having majors
7592 05 Feb 1989 @ 0000 05 Feb 1989 @ 2359 JSJ Veteran Geyser active.
7609 11 Feb 1984 @ 1800 --- research-mab 02/11/1984 Veteran Geyser active.
4664 31 Aug 1982 @ 0830 31 Aug 1982 @ 1823 research-mab 8/31/1982 Veteran was observed continually by various geyser gazers from 0830. Shortly after 1130, the pool to the east, adjacent to Veteran, began filling. By 1400 it was full, as was Veteran’s pool. No eruptions were seen until 1823. David Leeking
4972 18 Jun 1980 @ 1800 --- research-mab 06/18/1980 -Veteran Geyser – center and left pools partially filled the center pool’s vent has closed its right outlet since my June 16th observation. The activity now centers in the top vent and the newly filled left vent.
5030 13 Jul 1979 @ 0900 13 Jul 1979 @ 1030 research-mab 07/13/1979 NOTE Veteran’s pool was filled with aqua water about 4” above the top of the side hole when I arrived about 0900. The pool would gradually fill about two more inches, the geyser vent would do some very minor splashing, then all would go quiet and the pool would subside about 2”. I watched this cycle about 3 times until 0915 but the geyser never erupted nor did the pool drain completely. {I watched it same thing at 1030 – Helen}
5024 18 Jun 1979 @ 1530 --- research-mab 06/18/1979 A visitor reported that about the time Steamboat began, Veter[a]n drained completely dry. When checked at 1730 Veter[a]n was behaving normally with the usual amount of water.
5117 20 Aug 1977 @ 0845 --- research-mab 08/20/1977 At 0845 this morning Veteran was full of water like it gets during an eruption but was not splashing and churning like it normally does. Judging from the dry rocks and lack of spray marks on the trail, it has not had a major eruption for some time. The water level continued to rise but still no eruption.
5261 18 Aug 1976 @ 0825 --- research-mab 08/18/1976 {Full log entry log} Watched Veteran in one of its frenzies of activity from 8:00-8:20 0802 recently erupted 0804 began minor splashing 0805 began minor splashing from “main” vent 0805 major eruption began – all 3 vents active. Lasted 45 sec. Activity declined, sloshing 0807 minor activity began again – only main vent active 0808 major eruption – very powerful last 1:04 Activity declined, sloshing heard 0811 major eruption begins 0812 major eruption, lasting about 1:11 Activity fades, geyser quiet a little longer now 0815 minor eruption 0816 major eruption, last ~40 sec 0817 – 0819 minor eruption 0820 activity fades. All major eruptions were preceded by 20 sec to a minute of minor play. Major eruptions reached heights of as much as 7’ & shot across sinter as far as 15’. Side vent was active but sprays barely could be seen. Was rained away at 0825, when the geyser seemed to be finishing its entire display.
5546 09 Jul 1976 @ 1800 --- research-mab 07/09/1976 Veteran Geyser – still acting strangely - intermittent geysering but no major eruption preceded or follows activity
5542 07 Jul 1976 @ 1800 --- research-mab 07/07/1976 Veteran – has been acting strangely. Eruptive state was uncharacteristic of its “normal activity.” Pool in crater filled above vent. Water began belching from top vent at heights of 2-3 feet.
5543 07 Jul 1976 @ 1800 --- research-mab 07/07/1976 Veteran – has been acting strangely. Eruptive state was uncharacteristic of its “normal activity.” Pool in crater filled above vent. Water began belching from top vent at heights of 2-3 feet.
5861 28 May 1976 @ 1040 28 May 1976 @ 1115 research-mab 05/28/1976 Veteran behaving strangely from ~ 1040 to 1115. 1040 finished eruption 1042 d=1m09s, 1045 d=1m01s, 1048 d=1m03s, 1051 d=56s, 1054 d=54s, 1058 d=1m03s, 1102 d=55s (side vent didn’t activate), 1104 d=1m10s (wasn’t so powerful), 1107 d=1m20s, 1110 d=1m27s There was a great deal of agitation & splashing out of all vents between recorded eruptions. However, activity recorded was a steady, continuous eruption for the durations noted. Checked it after Echinus’ eruption, but it had settled down.
5632 06 Aug 1975 @ 0800 06 Aug 1975 @ 1800 research-mab 08/06/1975 Veteran in another frenzy of activity – evidence of frequent eruptions today. Visitors on 1200 walk saw two eruptions in succession.
5627 29 Jul 1975 @ 1800 --- research-mab 07/29/1975 Watched Veteran to see if it would repeat yesterday’s activity, but nothing was observed other than the usual sloshing.
5625 28 Jul 1975 @ 1615 --- research-mab 07/28/1975 Veteran shows evidence of not having erupted since its furious frenzy of activity this morning ( as of 4:15 pm).
5626 28 Jul 1975 @ 0950 28 Jul 1975 @ 1035 research-mab 07/28/1975 Veteran is behaving in an astonishing manner! Erupted six (6) times between 10:09 a.m. and 10:35 a.m.. Approximate intervals – three minutes. Erupted each time the adjacent pool drained back into it. Evidence of other eruptions not witnessed between 9:50 and 10:09. Each eruption a major one, hurling water as far as the grass and lodgepoles on the far side of the run-off channel; water thrown on the trail through the subsidiary vent pointing at the trail.
5859 07 Jun 1974 @ 1800 --- research-mab 06/07/1974 Observed Dr Morey’s Porkchop, Vixen, Veteran and my “Rubble Geyser” (Hodie’s New Crater Geyser”) in eruption. {no times noted}
5964 11 Apr 1973 @ 1220 11 Apr 1973 @ 1523 research-mab 04/11/1973 Veteran Observations ended at 3:23 ~ 18 minutes without an eruption Since it is 20 minutes between 2:10 and 2:30 it is quite possible that there were 2 eruptions during that time interval, 4 might have been between 1222 and 1253, 7 or 8 between 1258 and 2:10 if the average interval remained unchanged. Water was shot in 3 directions from 3 vents, the maximum being 36 feet (horizontal) from the main vent (measured)( & 15 feet vertically (estimated).
5913 11 Mar 1973 @ 1800 --- research-mab 03/11/1973 Veteran: duration 22 seconds estimated height 10 feet. {no time noted}
6469 04 Oct 1972 @ 1800 --- research-mab 10/04/1972 Veteran seems to be more active now, erupting several times an hour perhaps.
6445 29 Aug 1972 @ 1531 --- research-mab 08/29/1972 It appears that Veteran, The Dog’s Leg, & the new fissure geyser to the NW and Corporal Geyser are all interconnected. At 3:31 an increase of steam from Veteran was accompanied by a rise in water level with bubbling & overflow from Corporal followed by a drop in water level in The Dog’s Leg and an eruption of the new fissure geyser. This was in turn immediately followed by a drop in the pool level in Corporal & a rise in The Dog’s Leg.
6340 18 Jun 1972 @ 1415 --- research-mab 06/18/1972 On a tour of the Back Basin this afternoon (2:15-3:15) the following geysers were observed Echinus, Vixen, New Crevice (1’), Veteran (10’ up, 20-25’ out)
