10119 09 Sep 2018 @ 0810 --- cb Steamboat is gently huffing steam no water. Cistern is filling but is still about 12" below the inner tube with a roiling boil. Emerald Spring is clear, calm and in overflow. The new breakout by the south thumb is only spitting to an inch or so.
10125 09 Sep 2018 @ 0810 --- cb Quietly huffing steam, no water. Emerald Spring is in overflow, clear and calm. Cistern Spring is refilling slowly and is down 12" below the inner tube. (approximately 6' from overflow)
10108 08 Sep 2018 @ 1312 --- bbev Still quietly steaming, no water. Cistern Spring is empty, no sight or sound of water....really.
10112 08 Sep 2018 @ 0800 08 Sep 2018 @ 0900 cb not sure why but my posts from Norris this morning are gone so here is a recap. Emerald Spring is in overflow and blue/green in color. The new break out is erupting 2 - 3". SB is quiet with an occasional huff ov steam. Cistern Spring is empty (It does that!) with only a wisp of steam coming from deep down.
10098 08 Sep 2018 @ 0811 --- cb emerald spring is In overflow, clear, calm and blue/green in color. SB is mostly quiet with only a occasional huff from NV. Cistern Spring has completely drained WHICH IS TO BE EXPECTED AFTER SB QUITS! Just a faint steam from Cistern. Trough is empty of debris and did not refill.
10114 08 Sep 2018 @ 0811 --- WillBoekel emerald spring is In overflow, clear, calm and blue/green in color. SB is mostly quiet with only a occasional huff from NV. Cistern Spring has completely drained WHICH IS TO BE EXPECTED AFTER SB QUITS! Just a faint steam from Cistern. Trough is empty of debris and did not refill.
10105 07 Sep 2018 @ 1916 07 Sep 2018 @ 1941 bbev Surprisingly quiet, yet forceful, steam from both vents, with beautiful rainbow, light precipitation on both decks. Cistern Springs down 14-16" below overflow, clear with occasional bubbles in center. Some runoff still in NV channel from the rain. SV very muddy grey, steady runoff at bridge, unable to tell how full (if at all) trough is due to very milky runoff.
10072 06 Sep 2018 @ 0730 06 Sep 2018 @ 1839 cb We've had 12+ nice NVV events throughout the day. At 1800 the deep rumbling became louder and was accompanied with some nice concerted vertical from both vents. Cistern is overflowing and Emerald has reached overflow again and is turning a beautiful shade of turquoise blue! Just for the record.
10067 06 Sep 2018 @ 1730 --- novakg No eruption yet.
10048 05 Sep 2018 @ 1835 05 Sep 2018 @ 1936 bbev Nice jetting from both vents, some occasional concerted vertical, NV 25+' and SV 15+' with SV runoff cresting middle rock on one strong SV and rolling as much gravel in, as it might take out of the trough, which is mostly full. Overall, only change was SV more active, with increased runoff, and slightly more concerted play.
10047 05 Sep 2018 @ 1124 05 Sep 2018 @ 1223 bbev NV 20-25' SV 10-15', 1201 Nv 25+ with vertical, nothing out of SV. 1205 another nice NV 25'+ with vertical, 5' SV. 1209 10-15' SV, no runoff. 1211 concerted with 20+ NV vert and SV jetting 10', still very little if any runoff. 1221 another NV 20+' with vertical. SV not as active, with very little runoff. Trickle of water at and beyond bridge.
10049 05 Sep 2018 @ 1100 05 Sep 2018 @ 1200 BillJ To add to bbev's note: in this hour, I counted 99 NV minors/splashes, 18 from SV, 16 more or less concerted. Of those, 3 or 4 were moderate and the others weak. No "Beverly OMG" events or even close.
10035 04 Sep 2018 @ 1938 04 Sep 2018 @ 2010 cb Steamboat is starting to Splash. NV 1941 nice small angled jet. 1942 wispy jet from NV. 1946 5+' NV Splash. 1947 wispy NV jet. 1950 wispy NV splash. 1952 5+' splash X 2. 1953 NV splash. 1955 NV wispy splash. 1957 NV 10' splash. 1958 NICE NV 10 - 15' jetting lasting about 20s. 2001 NV wispy splash. Next splash was at 2009 NV 5' splash. Lots of deep grumbling and gurgling accompanied with huffing from NV. SV is steamy and the splash zone is damp but no water observed from it during this time frame. Emerald Spring is the same as this morning. Cistern Spring (much like this morning) is in heavy overflow with a 2' diameter boil.
10027 04 Sep 2018 @ 1155 --- novakg NV and SV were steam only. Occasional huffing could be heard.
10021 04 Sep 2018 @ 0900 --- cb Steamboat is gently steaming with occasional stronger huffs from both vents. SV runoff channel is damp about 15' from its vent. Water levels in Emerald are slowly rising but still below overflow. New South break out is still putting out water AND there is a new steamy area in the trees closer to the boardwalk! Cistern Is in heavy overflow in all directions and the muddy pool is WAY high! To steamy to see a boil but I can hear a faint bubbling sound and can see convection waves at the edge of the pool.
9998 03 Sep 2018 @ 0916 --- cb Quietly steaming. All runoff channels are dry. Cistern is Empty. completely drained but steamy with some audible bubbling sounds deep down. (34 degrees this morning) Emerald is up a bit, maybe 3". New thing to the south is only erupting to 2-3" and steamy. Trough is full of a gray, fine silty/sandy mix.
9989 02 Sep 2018 @ 1203 --- novakg Steady play from NV and SV. NV to 30 feet. I only stayed a minute or so.
9986 02 Sep 2018 @ 0935 02 Sep 2018 @ 1020 Polly Mixed steam and water phase. Both vents continuous water with periods where they became more steamy. North Vent had some bursts that were likely 120’ or more. Water from both vents was thin.
9982 01 Sep 2018 @ 1918 01 Sep 2018 @ 2130 cb 1918 was a OMG HOLY SHIT MINOR with huge run off and many other huge verticals with amazing runoff and raging rivers. at that point trough was totally dredged.
9981 01 Sep 2018 @ 1300 01 Sep 2018 @ 1700 cb At 1337 there were two back to back OMG Holy Shit events. From 1337 to 1437 73% concerted. In that time there were 11 NSVSH runoff. from 1525 to 1625 the hour started with 2 OMG Holy shit events 2 minutes apart. and that hour was 66% concerted. In that hour there was 9 concerted NSVSH with heavy runoff and 22 concerted NSV. At that time the trough was half dredged. @ 2000 the trough is completely dredged.
9979 01 Sep 2018 @ 0810 01 Sep 2018 @ 0847 bbev NV 25+' angled, some near vertical, every 1-2 min, SV 5-15', angled, less often. Back shelf wet with trickle. Some noisy runoff. 10-15% concerted. Deep rumbling. SV runoff at bridge just beginning to move gravel. No vertical seen from either vent during brief time, but activity has improved
9970 31 Aug 2018 @ 1916 31 Aug 2018 @ 2016 udo SV runoff channel is trickling. Lots of gravel in channel. Minors are infrequent, most are weak, few concerted. Max heights seen NV 30+, SV 20. None vertical. Broken board was replaced at bridge and pool to right of Elvis has no water in it but is damp.
9965 31 Aug 2018 @ 1250 31 Aug 2018 @ 1355 bbev Both vents alternating every 1-2 minutes. NV 10-20' SV 5+' Two or three concerted, no verical (and just as I finish writing) 1321. Nice 25' NV with 5' vertical x2. 1324 more vertical (even reverse) with 25' jetting from NV . 1331 NV 20+' vertical, nothing over 5' or vert from SV and no runoff. 1338 first good solo SV angled 8+' no runoff. 1342 NV 20+' with vert splash, no SV. 1349 concerted NV 25' sustained (20sec) but no vertical, SV 5-10'. NV looks promising but SV has yet to go vertical or put out anything other than a trickle of water down runoff, or wet the shelf behind it. Reminds me of what I saw daily for about 16 days in June, only NV was stronger with more vertical, and never enough SV runoff to remove the gravel from the trough.
9960 31 Aug 2018 @ 0753 --- cb a little improvement from last night but not much. SV starting to put a trickle down runoff channel. 2 splashes in 15 minutes. Cistern in overflow. Emerald spring still down a foot from overflow, clear and calm.
9964 31 Aug 2018 @ 0720 31 Aug 2018 @ 0740 bbev Several splashes from both vents, NV 5-10' and SV <5'. SV runoff is wet, enough to send trickle just as far as the bridge and darken the channel in places. Trough is full of gravel Cistern Springs still overflowing into muddy pool, enough that it is now overflowing into the trees in several places.
9955 30 Aug 2018 @ 1906 30 Aug 2018 @ 1932 bbev Steady soft rumble, 1907 light jet 10' from NV. SV runoff and back shoulder bleached white, no water in runoff. 1911 wispy jet from NV . 1913 NV 10' wispy. 1915 NV more wispy jetting Occasional stronger huffing from both vents with little or no water. 1931 wispy jet from NV, otherwise no water seen from either vent in past 16 min.
9953 30 Aug 2018 @ 1202 30 Aug 2018 @ 1220 bbev Steaming, mostly quiet with occasional soft huffing from NV . 1207 wispy splash from SV. 1210 wispy splash from NV. 1214 more light splashing from NV 1218 angled splashing 5'.from NV Cistern Spring in overflow on all sides. Overflow has filled muddy pool. Lightly boiling in middle of pool.
9944 30 Aug 2018 @ 0752 --- cb Still mostly huffing steam with one light spritz from NV that was 2' above the vent.
9933 29 Aug 2018 @ 1833 --- cb gently steaming. no audible sounds. no water yet. platform is completely dry. Cistern Spring is filling. Water is just visible about 3+' down the inner tube and it has a nice roiling boil. Emerald Spring still down 10 - 12" and is clear, calm and green
9938 29 Aug 2018 @ 1157 --- bbev Quietly steaming from both vents, no water. Cistern Spring water level is 5-6' below rim of inner tube. Water can just be seen boiling vigorously from boardwalk. Appears to be refilling.
9923 29 Aug 2018 @ 0852 --- cb SB is very quiet and putting out beautiful billows of white steam that are drifting WAY up into the sky because of the cold temps! Impressive steam cloud. Empty! no visible water or gurgling sounds from either deck but there is a column of steam rising from its depths. Emerald Spring is clear, calm, quiet and still way below overflow but up a bit from last night. New feature still erupting and overflowing into Emerald Spring runoff channe
9912 28 Aug 2018 @ 1817 --- cb mostly quiet with slight huffing. Beautiful gentle billowy steam coming from both vents. Channels dry. Cistern Spring is down approximately 2.5' - 3' from the rim. Milky blue/green in color with NO boil or bubbles.
9917 28 Aug 2018 @ 1143 28 Aug 2018 @ 1158 bbev Heard last night at about 2130 but unsure, guess i was right about what was heard. NV continuous, angled jetting 10-50', SV continuous vertical 5-20'. Steady SV overflow at bridge, reaching shoulder of middle rock. Milky, and trough is mostly full of gravel, debris on bridge. Cistern Springs is 12-14" below overflow. Report from Ethan is that Steamboat had several strong vertical minors during both his 1400 and 1500 STEAMBOAT talks yesterday. Enough, that he stopped each talk thinking it would erupt.
9906 28 Aug 2018 @ 0915 --- cb Steamboat is post eruptive. Both vent throwing water! NV vertical to 50' and its runoff channel has pooled milky water. SV to 20' steady flow of milky water at the bridge. Cistern Spring down 18+ inches. Emerald is down below overflow.
9899 27 Aug 2018 @ 0824 --- roymarino Minor eruptions out of both vents. SV had two large runoffs. Pushed out more rocks than in deposited in the channel. NV had on vertical push maybe 10 feet high for 5 seconds but no with SV. Observed for only 20 minutes.
9888 26 Aug 2018 @ 0803 --- bbev Steaming and beginning to quietly huff from both vents. No water seen in brief time I was there. Cistern Spring in strong overflow into muddy pool and surrounding areas. Rolling boil in middle of pool. Emerald Springs has dropped to 4-6" below overflow. Bubbler to the south continues to erupt 6-8" and put water in Emeralds runoff.
9878 25 Aug 2018 @ 0724 --- bbev Quietly steaming no water seen. Cistern Springs water level 48-50" below rim of inner "tube", rolling boil. Appears to be refilling. Emerald Springs still below overflow, clear, bubbler continues 6-8" and putting water down runoff . Runoff between Monarch and Minute unchanged. My Friday and a FREE weekend!!!
9856 24 Aug 2018 @ 1311 24 Aug 2018 @ 1327 bbev Steamboat quietly steaming. Cistern Springs is completely drained, no sign or sound of water, entire crater is dry and white. I have not seen Cistern this quiet and dry all year, not to say that it has not looked this way in recent past. Emerald Springs is 3-4" below overflow (I did not notice if it was overflowing this morning as I was focused on the new bubbler). Bubbler is putting out a substantial amount of runoff, maybe equal to what Emerald had been, and is continuous, 6-12" high.
9854 24 Aug 2018 @ 0715 24 Aug 2018 @ 0735 bbev Quiet, steaming, no water from either vent and no runoff. Occasional soft huffing from NV. Runoff is bleached white to the bridge, trough is full. Cistern Springs is drained down to just below inner "tube", 32-34"(?) below overflow Water is blue, nearly clear, enough to see the stick about 6" below surface. No bubbling at all.
9851 23 Aug 2018 @ 1150 23 Aug 2018 @ 1220 bbev NV steady jetting 5 - 40'. SV steady Vertical 15 - 20. Both vents have a grayish/dirty look. SV runoff steady moderate milky flow. Trough has mostly filled in. Cistern Springs down 12 - 14" below overflow.
9844 23 Aug 2018 @ 0707 --- cb Steamboat is in mixed water/steam phase from both vents. Run off at the bridge is a steady whiteish flow. Cistern Spring is down 18" - 24" and is a calm opalescent greenish/blue pool with no boil.
9836 22 Aug 2018 @ 1739 --- cb In full steam phase. no water jets from either vent. wonderful loud roar! I am noting this Green Dragon Spring here as it doesn't have its own file. GDS has clear water running in its channels and the brown that had coated the channels from the disturbance is turning white and green.
9823 22 Aug 2018 @ 1400 --- udo Despite parking in overflow area on Grand Loop Road my car did get a small amount of Steamboat crud from this eruption. Is nowhere safe?
9821 22 Aug 2018 @ 0900 22 Aug 2018 @ 1136 udo Not much has changed in past several days. Appears to be stuck. Woo-hoo at 1012 followed by several pushes until 1024. Woo-hoo 1104. Marcing 1136.
9810 21 Aug 2018 @ 1900 21 Aug 2018 @ 2034 udo Runoff from minors continues to keep left side flowing moderately and over middle rock regularly. Minors seem less frequent, very few vertical concerteds. Hardly any were sustained. NV hit 50 feet a few times. SV to 15 or so. No eruption yet. Radio calls: collateral citation, 81 in a 45. Also 85 in a 45 on 191. Crazy drivers out there.
9796 20 Aug 2018 @ 2145 --- Kitt B no eruption yet
9795 20 Aug 2018 @ 2013 --- Kitt B no eruption yet
9791 20 Aug 2018 @ 1430 --- EricZ Has not erupted yet
9787 19 Aug 2018 @ 2112 --- Kitt B no Steamboat as of 2112. Strong minors were occurring more frequently the last hour.
9786 19 Aug 2018 @ 0630 19 Aug 2018 @ 1830 cb we had several nice events through the day that were broad, tall, vertical and started to gain height but all fail to start an eruption. ( nice NVV w/ granding) I dont have my book with me to note the times. Water coming down the channel is still clear. Cistern dropped a few inches this afternoon.
9785 19 Aug 2018 @ 1800 --- EricZ no eruption yet
9781 19 Aug 2018 @ 1330 --- udo No eruption yet. I would not be surprised if it went overnight.
9780 19 Aug 2018 @ 1204 --- udo False start. Reminiscent of 1114 on June 10.
9773 18 Aug 2018 @ 2030 --- Kitt B no Steamboat yet
9770 18 Aug 2018 @ 1818 --- EricZ Has not erupted yet
9775 18 Aug 2018 @ 0745 18 Aug 2018 @ 1818 Tom C. From ~1030-1130 ~51 minors, ~55% C, ~30% N, ~15% S. Several Whoo-hoos. Came within an eyelash of erupting during Ranger Marc's Steamboat Geyser talk AGAIN. [The 8/4 major started during his talk.] Seems ready to go if it decides to.
9769 18 Aug 2018 @ 1745 --- JeffL no eruption as of 1745
9798 18 Aug 2018 @ 0830 18 Aug 2018 @ 1620 Ben VL Stronger activity than yesterday. Many strong verticals out of North Vent, and frequent sustained verticals out of SV. Lots of strong runoff. Energy peak around noontime brought several very strong minors at 1005 (WooHoo), 1059 (WooHoo), 1155 (WooHoo), 1211 (WooHoo), 1337 (Start Screaming), 1404 (Start Screaming), and a heart stopping minor (ironically near the end of ranger Marc's talk) at 1415 that could have easily triggered a full eruption. The gazers who had seen it before were surprised it didn't start right then and there. Energy peak ended shortly after that. Runoff channel very white, including some of the South Vent catch basin. To the best of my knowledge, Tom Carberry never noticed a particularly strong sulfur smell over at Decker Island while I was there. No eruption by 1620 when I had to pull myself away to go home, but by everything I can tell, it seems ready.
9765 18 Aug 2018 @ 1525 --- udo No eruption yet. Horizontal steam devil!
9755 17 Aug 2018 @ 2000 --- Kitt B no Steamboat yet.
9754 17 Aug 2018 @ 0630 17 Aug 2018 @ 1945 JimS No eruption yet. Minors with verticals more frequent than yesterday, but did not become stronger.
9909 17 Aug 2018 @ 0840 17 Aug 2018 @ 1730 Ben VL Stronger than yesterday. More frequent NV verticals. South Vent frequently took over concerted activity with stronger "Billing" (sorry) then yeaterday. Stronger minors at 902 (Woo-Hoo), 908, 1314, 1316, 1319, 1344 (Woo-Hoo), & 1453 with many other NV verts (some concerted, some not) mixed in between. Runoff channel progressively whiter by the and of our viewing session. Steamboat is progressing slowly.
9753 17 Aug 2018 @ 1526 --- udo No eruption yet.
9742 17 Aug 2018 @ 0957 --- Janet White No eruption yet. Granding from both vents at 0902.
9740 16 Aug 2018 @ 2020 --- Kitt B no eruption as of 2020.
9741 16 Aug 2018 @ 1620 16 Aug 2018 @ 2000 Kitt B We had sustained vertical at 1646, a 1.5 minute sustained vertical at 1735, and 1830 had another vertical but it didn't last as long. I counted 5 other times when North vent had some vertical.
9737 16 Aug 2018 @ 0730 16 Aug 2018 @ 1700 Tom C. 3 hours of logged minors (10-11 (by cb), 11-12 and 1530-1630) yielded nearly identical results: ~50% concerted, ~40% North, ~10% South. Some nice vertical play in South. A little desultory vertical play from North. A little begrudgingly sustained play from both, but rarely at the same time. Several "Whoo"s. I may have missed one or two Whoo-hoos. Never seriously threatened to erupt.
9735 16 Aug 2018 @ 0720 16 Aug 2018 @ 1625 udo No eruption yet. Rugged rubber baby buggy bumpers.
9768 16 Aug 2018 @ 0910 16 Aug 2018 @ 1503 Ben VL Better than yesterday. Slightly stronger and more frequent NV verticals then yesterday. One event with "granding" in it at 1210. Frequent heavy sustained vertical "Beehiving" in SV accompanied by heavy runoff (BIll's favorite) observed, and I was able to say "rugged rubber baby buggy bumpers" at typical conversation speed!
9728 15 Aug 2018 @ 1920 15 Aug 2018 @ 2005 bbev SV continues tall sustained vert with heavy runoff(lol), mostly concerted. Runoff channel whiter than this morning and water remains clear at bridge. Area to far left of mid rock showing signs of whitening and not having a lot of "steerage" experience, I am unsure if this is new runoff area or not. Per Jim's observation from 0600 to 2000: " Lots of strong, concerted minors with very little quiet time. Several concerted vertical from NV lasting only a few seconds. Much improved from yesterday
9767 15 Aug 2018 @ 0910 15 Aug 2018 @ 1639 Ben VL More frequent vertical out of NV when compared to yesterday, yet still not that frequent. Most of them were low heavy splashes, and they were not sustained. South dominated play.
9724 15 Aug 2018 @ 0845 15 Aug 2018 @ 1245 billwarnock Steamboat having some nice water bursts from both vents quite a few concerted, but not much vertical. There were a few nice vertical shots but not enough to get excited about.
9727 15 Aug 2018 @ 1053 15 Aug 2018 @ 1215 bbev 1053 good concerted vert from both vents, did not last. 1150 Another good vertical from NV lasting only a few seconds, nothing followed.
9721 14 Aug 2018 @ 1910 14 Aug 2018 @ 1940 bbev No NV vertical seen. No real change from my 2hr observation of this morning from 1000 to 1215. SV runoff whiter than this morning.
9719 14 Aug 2018 @ 1820 14 Aug 2018 @ 1930 minissa Only thing to add is that around 1900, both vents had some play with nice volume and vertical-ness again in SV; with improved volume, angle on NV was closer to vertical (roughly 70 degrees). Bill noted some chalky or milky quality to runoff during this period, esp visible where the runoff pools between episodes of babbling brook
9717 14 Aug 2018 @ 0610 14 Aug 2018 @ 1810 JimS Lots of concerted minors but while SV had perhaps 10 or more verticals, North had 3. Only 1 vertical was concerted and all were brief.
9766 14 Aug 2018 @ 0800 14 Aug 2018 @ 1450 Ben VL North vent reaching 30 feet at times, south 20' max. Occasional verticals from SV, only saw two events with vertical play from NV at 1245 and 1346, but they were brief. Perhaps a splash of vertical at 1328 from NV as well.
9707 13 Aug 2018 @ 1700 13 Aug 2018 @ 2030 jillyjill Vents active for several hours. North definitely vertical and south a couple times. Frequent woohoo moments lasting a few seconds to several minutes. Really thought it might go! Left to grab jackets and grab a bite to eat from our car, intended to stay until dark but a thunderstorm drive us back to our car.
9704 13 Aug 2018 @ 1810 13 Aug 2018 @ 1858 bbev SB still having concerted play 20-25+' from both vents. <40% concerted noted. SV trying to go vertical but nothing close to vertical from NV. Cistern overflow down from this morning.
9701 13 Aug 2018 @ 1345 13 Aug 2018 @ 1433 udo Gravel pit is dredged. Water is clear. Left side is flowing and middle rock gets covered from strong, long SV minors. Concerted minors frequency varies from often to long pauses during lulls. No vertical from NV. Heights are 10-20 feet. Duration good at times. IMO needs increased frequency. Verticalness and deep percussive sounds are missing. Not quite ready but could be any time it wants to.
9702 13 Aug 2018 @ 0715 13 Aug 2018 @ 1420 Barbara Lasseter Lots of water for the 1st 45+min from both N & S vents, concerted. Nearly continuous rushing water down the S channel for that period. Neither vent was vertical. As the AM progressed, S vent developed a more vertical presentation, but not so w/N vent. Lulls were brief, water output impressive. I noted prolonged bursting from both vents with strong vertical output from S vent at 1135, 1218, 1326, and w/angled S vent at 1355. Fun to watch!
9703 13 Aug 2018 @ 0935 13 Aug 2018 @ 1121 bbev SV huge raging river as I walked up. Strong concerted jetting from both vents, NV 20-25', SV 15-20 with substantial runoff. No vertical. Considerable dredging from last night, trough mostly clear of debris even in flat area downstream towards bridge. 0958 runoff around right side of middle rock(5?). Left side trickle and is mostly wet. Water remains clear. 1055 strong concerted minors, NV 25+' and SV 20+' with good runoff. SV trying to get vert and lasting 5-10 sec.
9693 12 Aug 2018 @ 1828 12 Aug 2018 @ 1930 bbev Occasional jetting from both vents, 10-20'. SV runoff steady, clear flow of water that has dredged enough to barely expose bottom. Several pushes were half way over middle rock and left a trickle on the left side. Steamboat sign missing at mid deck! 1914, 1918, 1922, 1926 nice strong concerted minor NV 25-30', SV 20' with nice runoff. No vertical from either vent. Cistern Spring is boiling vigorously and overflowing, filling muddy pool on the left side. Appears clear and blue.
9688 12 Aug 2018 @ 1545 12 Aug 2018 @ 1730 jillyjill A little vertical play out of both North and South vents. Heavy flow during this time. One woo hoo moment at 1722. Cistern spring had constant flow and was higher than last Friday when we were here.
9632 11 Aug 2018 @ 0732 11 Aug 2018 @ 0752 bbev SV 8-10', runoff channel wet, flowing from area above and behind SV. 0734 SV 15-20', NV same. Cistern Springs clear, blue and runoff has filled muddy pool near boardwalk. SV runoff steady light stream, clear, and extending below bridge, gravel in place. Channel is returning to grey/yellow color at bridge. 0748 back to mid deck, NV jetting 20+', SV 15' 0750 SV 25' and sent trickle down runoff. 0751 NV 25'.
9600 10 Aug 2018 @ 1306 10 Aug 2018 @ 1324 bbev SB appears unchanged from this morning, alternating between quiet and soft huffing.1308 SV splash 1312 NV 10-15'. 1320 SV 5 '. 1322 NV 10'. No water in runoff, back of SV wet and returned to yellowish color.
9599 10 Aug 2018 @ 0730 10 Aug 2018 @ 0754 bbev SB becoming a little noisier, huffing from both vents. 0734 wispy water from NV. 0737 SV 10', 0742 10' splash NV and wispy splash from SV. 0748 NV 5'. 0752 NV jetting.
9586 09 Aug 2018 @ 1201 09 Aug 2018 @ 1227 bbev Unchanged, quietly steaming, no water. 1208 small splash from both vents, after soft huffing. NV 5-8'. SV just over ET's head.1222 10' splash from NV.
9537 08 Aug 2018 @ 0729 08 Aug 2018 @ 0742 bbev SB quietly billowing steam from both vents. Steam coming from area behind, above and to the east of SV. SW vent not steaming at all. Cistern Springs appears to be at same level as last night, 16-18" below overflow. Continues to boil. Clear, pale green.
9523 07 Aug 2018 @ 1914 07 Aug 2018 @ 1919 bbev SB no change from this morning, quietly steaming with no water from either vent. Cistern Springs may have risen 1" since this morning, boiling more vigorously, and water appears to be clearing.
9521 07 Aug 2018 @ 1206 07 Aug 2018 @ 1221 bbev SB very quietly steaming from both vents. No water and oddly silent on mid deck. SV runoff dry, brilliant white, above and below bridge, trough full of small gravel and silt. Cistern Springs up maybe 2" from 27 hours ago, green, cloudy, moderate boil (refilling?).
9508 07 Aug 2018 @ 1110 --- Stephen_Gemar Huffing steam with a little force behind it. VERY quiet.
9490 06 Aug 2018 @ 0859 06 Aug 2018 @ 0925 bbev Steady mixed water/steam huffing from NV, mostly steam from SV with steady, very light milky runoff. Trough has mostly filled with small gravel and silt. 0917, wispy NV jetting, 10-15', trickle down NV runoff. No water seen from SV. Cistern Springs is 18-20" below overflow, down another 2-3" from last night. Emerald clear and calm.
9483 05 Aug 2018 @ 2018 05 Aug 2018 @ 2044 bbev NV water/steam mix, activity much less than this morning but still enough for a light rain on mid deck. 2032 SV runoff just cresting left shoulder of middle rock and trough has nearly filled with gravel and silt. NV runoff channel still moderatly flowing same milky water as SV. Cistern Springs 16-18" below overflow, down 2-3" from this morning.
9474 05 Aug 2018 @ 0905 05 Aug 2018 @ 1000 bbev Heavy steam, precipitating heavily on mid deck. SV with consistent, moderate (2-3 scale? Water is just cresting left shoulder of middle rock. Increased flow at 0920 to mid point on middle rock), very milky overflow, but no splashing. NV is mixed water and steam, seen from upper deck, with light milky runoff in its channel. SV runoff channel trough is clear of any debris. Still very white both above and below bridge. 0922 water increased in NV, steady jet 30-60', angled, and vertical, still throwing small rocks. SV steady vertical 20-25' with moderate, steady overflow seen from mid deck. 0938 Increased water in both vents. SV more left and vert than anything, NV near 70-80'. Cistern Springs is 12-14" below overflow and clear enough to make out inner tube. Very quiet, dry small bubbles in middle of pool.
9472 04 Aug 2018 @ 1410 --- udo FYI, Steamboat has a 2-holed vent located SW of the S vent and across from S vent's runoff channel that huffs steam during S vent minors and erupts or sloshes water intermittently sideways but also slightly vertical (a few inches max) during a major. I have been calling it the SW vent but it probably has other nicknames. This vent stopped sloshing water at 1442. Since the transition from water to steam phase in Steamboat's other vents is highly subjective, I propose that the water phase ends when the SW vent stops sloshing water out as it did during all of the eruptions that I witnessed this year.
9535 04 Aug 2018 @ 0600 04 Aug 2018 @ 1410 Tara Kitt Barger reported a tall, sustained, vertical Granding minor at 0603. There were also several large follow-up minors until 0618. Then nothing of note until smaller North vertical minors at 0949 and 1100, the latter of which had very heavy runoff from South Vent. There was a short series of strong minors at 1224, 1226, and 1227, then good runoff at 1346. At 1407 there was a moderately strong flow at the bridge 3 minutes prior to the start of the major eruption, but nothing that suggested it was building.
9460 03 Aug 2018 @ 2120 --- Stephen_Gemar No eruption when we left the parking lot. At 21:20.
9459 03 Aug 2018 @ 2005 03 Aug 2018 @ 2035 Stephen_Gemar A couple of nice concerted minors, but no consistent vertical jetting observed from NV during this time. NV had a couple thicker jets. SV did send a lot of water down the runoff channel at 20:19. No “woo-hoo” minors observed.
9449 03 Aug 2018 @ 1815 --- JimS No eruption as of 1815. Several good minors with Granding and many verticals from North, but they were scattered and did not build
