21903 10 Jun 2022 @ 1321 --- novakg Went to check on Vixen as I was leaving the Back Basin. Vixen was mostly dry except for the north catch basin. Water was at 2nd beach. Very, very warm day.
21900 10 Jun 2022 @ 1025 10 Jun 2022 @ 1117 novakg 1025: inner basin fill. 1026: pool dropped. 1027: Refilling. 1028: Quickly refilling. 1039: Inner basin fill. 1043: Crash. 1112: Water in 2nd beach. 1117: Crash to inner (I was about to write "basin" but we packed up for Steamboat).
21821 07 Jun 2022 @ 1540 07 Jun 2022 @ 1734 novakg Returned from up top. 1540: Water sitting at the top of the vent. 1620: Water to the bottom of the inner basin. 1703: Inner basin nearly full. Approaching 1st Beatch. No crashes yet. 1734: Water on 1st Beach. Not long after this, I went to Decker's Island as Steamboat had some nice activity.
21820 07 Jun 2022 @ 1330 --- novakg At this point I waited until after 1400 to ensure that another eruption would not happen. Then I went up top to do a gear adjustment (lots of wind today, but a nice day) and grab a sandwitch.
21819 07 Jun 2022 @ 1102 --- novakg Talked to four guys who had seen the eruption. Water was in the runoff channels, but I didn't see the eruption.
21614 31 May 2022 @ 1537 --- cb water is up to & almost covering the first set of biscuits (hedgehog?) small bubbles
21245 11 May 2022 @ 0930 --- MAB seen in slow fill just above vent rim w no bubbles

20255 31 Oct 2021 @ 0847 --- MAB arrived 0847 - of over 500 eruptions this summer my FIRST walkup at the end of a slow fill - through west notch but SW basins not full yet - 'bout time I got lucky
20229 30 Oct 2021 @ 1538 --- cb Lots of water flowing down the channels. steamy around the platform, water is still warm.
20169 28 Oct 2021 @ 1535 28 Oct 2021 @ 1700 MAB watch a bit of slow fill with drops - out of view @ 1703
20143 27 Oct 2021 @ 1213 --- cb pool is filling. Hedgehog covered. Convection waves over the vent. snowy, blowy & COLD! runoff channels have minimal pooling.
20048 19 Oct 2021 @ 1320 --- cb Platform is dry. runoff channels are mostly dry albeit for a few low lying pools that have some pooling. Very still water low in the vent.
20035 18 Oct 2021 @ 1530 --- mwolf full-ish pool. completely calm. zero bubbles or steam. platform seems pretty dry.
19902 05 Oct 2021 @ 1112 --- MAB waited for the platform to dry as my marker & went for a walkabout @ 100min post eruption w water barely visible in slight wobble - returned to a slow fill @1300
19855 02 Oct 2021 @ 1044 --- cb runoff channels in all directions wet with pooling water in places. Pool is in overflow to the sign at 1045.
19834 01 Oct 2021 @ 1431 --- MAB a little splashy 20m post eruption tossing some spritzes above vent rim then quieter 46m post - left it in a slow fill @ 1hr post eruption
19761 27 Sep 2021 @ 1027 27 Sep 2021 @ 1147 novakg Arrived to wet platform and runoff channels. Water in north and SW holding basins. Water in vent was approaching 1st beach. 1044: 1st beach 1056: 2nd beach 1121: Pool crashed to below hedgehog. 1129: Hedgehog coverd. 1135: Water in notch. 1141: Beginning to overflow to SW 1147: NW overflow to holding basins, SW overflow almost, but not quite, to the Vixen sign.
19747 26 Sep 2021 @ 1700 --- cb @ ~1700 run off channels wet and water was in the smooth area of the platform. I noted that channels were very dry at 1511 when I was called back to SB.
19751 26 Sep 2021 @ 0954 26 Sep 2021 @ 1300 novakg Arrived to wet runoff channels and a wet platform with water in the north and SW catch basins. Water was not yet visible in the vent, but steam could be seen rising from the vent. By 1246 water had filled the inner basin. By 1300 water was touching 1st beach. No big crashes during this period.
19731 25 Sep 2021 @ 1453 --- novakg Back from lunch. The platform was very dry, with some water still in the north catch basins. The wind had kicked up while I was gone. By 1541 water was visible in the vent, doing the wibbly wobbly thing and bobbing and bubbles. Water continue to slowly rise and by 1641 was visible from my chair and water was near the top of the vent. At 1717 water was entering the inner basin. I left at 1800, water was almost coving the inner basin and I had not observed a crash in water level. Sometime between 1330 and 1453 Vixen transitioned from shorts to longs.
19651 18 Sep 2021 @ 1448 --- novakg Some small dampness in the north catch pools. This implies that there was an eruption earlier in the day. Also, some light water in the SW catch pools. Water is just visible in the vent. East sinkhole water is slightly down. I left at about 1545 due to high wind and rain. By this point the water in the vent had risen maybe 3 to 4 in inches.
19620 16 Sep 2021 @ 0906 16 Sep 2021 @ 1140 MAB Slow fill with slight drops at ~20min intervals - did not go check on fill progress after 1140
18580 22 Jul 2021 @ 1045 22 Jul 2021 @ 1130 Tara Frequent eruptions with steam mixed in, quick drains
18366 11 Jul 2021 @ 1533 11 Jul 2021 @ 1540 cb 1533 Vixen is making audible gurgling noises with an occational visual splash. Both runoff channels by the Tantalus bridge are wet with pooling water to the river. no eruption as of 1540.
18325 09 Jul 2021 @ 1842 --- MAB Arrived 0848 to dry platform including the deep catch basins - slow fill with blips - made steady progress @26-30m fill n drop cycles then @3h dropped to where I first saw it - and repeat - don't mind the wait but want to study the relationship of overflow to start time in different points of the cycle - today it didn't even fill enough to flow out past the west notch let alone SW overflow - for that matter didn't get a start either - left it at 1842
18278 05 Jul 2021 @ 1523 --- cb Platform and channels dry, water low in the vent but visable. Half dollar - dime sized bubbles breaking the surface with waves.
18191 29 Jun 2021 @ 0809 --- Graham Post eruptive, water flowing down runoff channel and plarform steamy. Gurgling and splashing in vent.
18122 27 Jun 2021 @ 0830 27 Jun 2021 @ 1900 cb @0830. Platform and runoff channels are still bone dry all the way to the river. Sinter covered plants in the runoff channel close to Tantalus Creek are so dry they are brittle to the touch. I don't believe Vixen erupted at all since my last observation yesterday and through the night. @1115 water is up to the hedgehog, it is calm, no bubbles. 1330 Dry platform still! water is fluctuating between covering the hedgehog and to its base. no bubbles. Seems to be fluctuating ~1". Pool just to the east (behind) Vixen is about 8 - 10" below high water mark. 1700 water in about the same place, platform still dry and the pool/hole on the other side of the boardwalk is drying. @1900 water well covering the hedgehog and extends about 4" beyond it. Slight rise and fall in the pool which exposes the "spins on the top of Hedge". still no bubbles, platform still dry.
18121 26 Jun 2021 @ 1100 26 Jun 2021 @ 2000 cb @ 1100 the Platform is dry to Tantalus Creek, water is visable in the tube ~6" down and no bubbles. @1315 water level is at the smooth area. Still dry platform. @1700 still dry and water is at 2nd beach. @ 2000 still bone dry platform, water fluctuating between filling the smooth area up to the surrounding biscuits and then slightly drop. No bubbles.
17963 21 Jun 2021 @ 1258 21 Jun 2021 @ 1430 CrisG another slow refill. I kept coming back and forth between Corporal to check. Left at 1430 with water at the base of the frogs. Another very hot day with no wind and my stomach was screaming for food.

17557 07 Jun 2021 @ 1414 07 Jun 2021 @ 1555 novakg Arrived at 1414 to dry platform and dry runoff channels. Vixen was rising with occasional convection and bloops. 1431: Fill paused (below 1st beach). 1433: Convection resumed. 1445: Water now on 1st beach. Still occasional convection. 1450: Water to 2nd Beach. 1506: Water crashed to bottom of 1st Beach. 1512: Water rising over 1st & 2nd Beach; 1514: over Hedgehog rock. 1518: Water over 2nd Beach. 1526: Dropped slightly. 1530: Drain back to 2nd Beach. 1533: Very still. 17474 05 Jun 2021 @ 0925 05 Jun 2021 @ 0950 Stephen_Gemar Arrived to a VERY dry platform and a full pool that was extending into the smaller rocks on the right-front and right side of Vixen’s crater. Over the course of observation, the pool began slowly dropping. Some light convection observed over the vent throughout observation. No bubbles observed. At 09:43, the pool began rising, returning the pool to the level upon arrival. Left the area at 09:50, did not observe an eruption.
17361 01 Jun 2021 @ 2050 --- MAB Arrived 0911 to mostly dry platform w/fill 1in below vent rim and proceeded to watch fill/drop cycles with regularity ~ many 22-28min. First overflow in SW channel only moistened the 3rd tier, followed by two more drops all reaching the 3rd tier about an hour apart. Final drop was @ 2047 whereupon I left. Interval then much greater than 11h40m. Learned a few things though!
17174 24 May 2021 @ 1142 24 May 2021 @ 1222 annelies8 Sat to watch for 40 minutes to see if anything would happen. Water was low when I arrived and filled VERY slowly until I left to reach the surroundings rocks, but no activity other than a few bubbles. Surrounding ground had a few wet spots but it was also snowing quite hard...
17119 17 May 2021 @ 2017 --- MAB Definitely in Slow Down but did not quiet like previous observations- a few splashes above ground level - but water not visible- left it at 50m
17099 15 May 2021 @ 1250 15 May 2021 @ 1550 cb Platform mostly dry with a few low areas that look damp. water is low in the vent, slightly fluctuating with occational bubbles. @1420 water is still in the same spot. 1435 water is visable sitting down on the boardwalk. 1515 water has filled the smooth area and entering the biscuits. 3 hours + and no eruption. SLOOOOW fill!
17093 14 May 2021 @ 1356 --- cb platform is dry dry DRY! A little water low in the vent with an occational bubble. LONGS!
17025 09 May 2021 @ 1253 --- cb no eruption seen while our walk. runoff channel's are dry. water up in the vent and smooth area. occasional small bubble from the vent
16999 06 May 2021 @ 1941 --- MAB Vixen story of the day was mini crashes during refill- 1 step forward 1 step back - final fill in the long intervals was steady until the 1st crash @ 55m which wasn't so mini
16974 30 Apr 2021 @ 1929 --- MAB All eruptions today preceded by audible gurgles heard before water is visible
16958 29 Apr 2021 @ 1935 --- DanS Vixen active again with water in runoff channels.
16955 29 Apr 2021 @ 1247 29 Apr 2021 @ 1535 DanS Appears not to have erupted this period. Runoff channels dry.
16900 20 Apr 2021 @ 1301 20 Apr 2021 @ 1800 MAB Twelve observed starts all preceded by audible gurgles before a quick rise and start from within the tube. Slight gurgle heard at 28 min and small splashes at 36 min - water level not visible - similar to the previous starts but it quieted. By 2 hours totally silent. Still in a quiet SLOW refill - leaving it at 5h 5 min post eruption interval. Druther have had a closed interval. Also was glad to observe the transition to longs, but would druther have seen it the other direction.
16847 06 Feb 2021 @ 1450 --- Micah Kipple Gurgling at depth.
16484 29 Oct 2020 @ 1655 29 Oct 2020 @ 1745 MAB Quick return w inner circle full WITH BLOOPS at 22min which continued filling at a nice rate. Slight drop at 38m turned into a full blown crash by 40m. Filling again at 47m w another crash at 60m. Early on at 25+ min was hopeful for the shift to short intervals but Nope. Reached my cutoff time with 3 Vixens in 8 hours
16347 06 Oct 2020 @ 1307 --- cb Had Vixen in view since 1244 and no eruption. Platform is mostly dry with water just visible in the vent. Occational small bubble. It's on a slow fill. Runoff channel toward Tantalus is damp. This is not a closed interval observation.
15640 18 Aug 2020 @ 1700 --- cb pool rose quickly to cover the smooth area of the pool and bubbled right after the last eruption then stalled at the first set of "rocks". Storms a'comin and I'm out!
15639 18 Aug 2020 @ 1320 18 Aug 2020 @ 1600 cb Vixen got very quiet shortly after the last eruption ended. no gurgling/bubbling sounds and no water observed in the vent. 1408 water visable in the tube but only an occational bubble that comes to the surface. 1415 more frequent bubbles breaking the surface but pool is low (4") in the vent. Arduously slow refill! Pool comes up a few inches and drops one inch - up and inch, down a half; repeats. 1510 pool has filled the smooth area and is beginning to filter into the rocky features on the south edge, very few bubbles breaking the surface. 1542 *yawn-stretch=more-smarties* @1600 pool has SLOWLY come up to the smaller "rocks" on the south end of the platform. A few random bubbles that break the surface and some convection waves. Who will win this wait?
15553 13 Aug 2020 @ 1045 13 Aug 2020 @ 1109 cb No eruptions seen during my walkabout. @1110 the platform has areas of pooling and runoff channels are wet. Vixen's vent has no water at this point and no sounds or steam. moving on
14955 11 Jul 2020 @ 1656 11 Jul 2020 @ 1815 cb tube is empty and mostly dry. no sounds or visable water. runoff channels are damp. Still no eruption while i was watching from Orby. @1810 water is just coming up and into the tube with occational bubble and fluctuating water levels. left area at 1815
14954 10 Jul 2020 @ 1400 10 Jul 2020 @ 1450 cb pool is quiet, no bubbles and very little ripples. Pool would slightly come up a bit and fall all within the smooth section of the pool. At around 1430 the water was sloooowly starting to seep into the 1st rocky section. still no eruption as of 1450
14774 29 Jun 2020 @ 0750 29 Jun 2020 @ 0827 Graham 0750 Full no bubbles. 0819 bubbles started.
14692 20 Jun 2020 @ 1056 20 Jun 2020 @ 1249 cb No vixen during this time period. @1306 Vixens platform and runoff channels are bone dry all the way to Tantalus creek. Water has pooled in the smooth section of the vent, no bubbles, no convection waves
14603 11 Jun 2020 @ 1753 --- cb Doesn't look like there has been a eruption in awhile. rocks around the crater are dry and perimeter 5' around Vixen is dry. water is in the tube about 5" below the smooth area. It fluctuates up and down with an occational bubble.
14494 02 Jun 2020 @ 0842 02 Jun 2020 @ 0911 ypcaribou Not in eruption at either 0842 or 0911 when I walked nearby
13994 01 Nov 2019 @ 1540 01 Nov 2019 @ 1655 MAB refill was in track to be 2m shorter than previous until a stall at 30m - it thought it erupted w a slight drop then more drop - filling again by 44m but a palpitating fill - no bubbles - another crash at 60m - looked good at 71m until another crash at 80m. my drink was slush so I left
13935 13 Oct 2019 @ 1359 --- ypcaribou While staking out Fearless, a nice family approached from direction of Vixen and said they had just watched it finish and "drain like a toilet." Estimate 1349 end?
13934 13 Oct 2019 @ 1150 13 Oct 2019 @ 1250 ypcaribou At 12:50, saw 2 guys at Vixen as I approaced. One was putting out the cigarette he assumed I didn't see from Tantalus Creek. Guys said they hadn't seen Vixen the whole time they waited, which they estinated to be about an hour. It was fullish with water bouncing as I walked away toward Palpitator.
14156 11 Oct 2019 @ 1230 11 Oct 2019 @ 1515 underarockphoto Vixen in a stall. No steam was seen while walking around back basin. At 13:50 the runoff channels were dry still. Watched it until ~14:50, water levels would pulse up and down with some bubbles. Left and went over toward Veteran and Minute for the next half hour or so staying within view of Vixen. No eruption by the time we left around 15:15.
13916 10 Oct 2019 @ 1600 --- underarockphoto Water bobbing up and bubbling. No eruption from 15:45 to 16:15
13575 05 Sep 2019 @ 0935 05 Sep 2019 @ 0950 cb stalled at 3rd beach. Occational bubbles breaking the surface. All runoff channels damp in areas and dry in others.
13560 04 Sep 2019 @ 1521 --- novakg New sign installed at Vixen.
13552 04 Sep 2019 @ 0920 04 Sep 2019 @ 1026 CrisG No eruption during this time. I went back to near Corporal to keep an eye on both.
13491 01 Sep 2019 @ 0850 01 Sep 2019 @ 0928 cb water slowly rising with random bubbles. platform very wet. no eruption
13298 16 Aug 2019 @ 2028 --- Ben VL Unattended. No eruption by 2028.
12544 20 Jul 2019 @ 1239 20 Jul 2019 @ 1310 cb looks like its been awhile since the ladt eruption. Main run off channel has just a few areas of dampness. Runoff channel to the west is bone dry. The water level in Vixens pool is high - covers the smooth area and a bit into the rocks. A few sporadic bubbles break the surface. Geyser eggs closest to the bw and a foot beyond are bone dry. no eruption during this observation period.
11069 24 Apr 2019 @ 1310 --- DanS Erupted again between 1112-1310.
11068 24 Apr 2019 @ 1030 24 Apr 2019 @ 1112 DanS Erupted sometime this morning. Runoff channels wet. east and sw runoff pools filled. Didn’t erupt 1030-1112.
11063 23 Apr 2019 @ 1115 23 Apr 2019 @ 1600 MAB Vixen is nearly imperceptibly filling; upon arrival on a 10 minute cycle, thence to a 20 minute cycle. Over 5 hours water would slowly rise, then ebb, but gradually rising. 1115 it was at the inner circle, by 1600 just into the 2nd beach. The rises may have a little visible convection, or subtle palpitating. Very interesting. I think it's about .5 inch per hour, if that.
11051 22 Apr 2019 @ 1034 22 Apr 2019 @ 1905 DanS Vixen did not erupt today during observation period, Run-off channels are dry. Variable water in neck rose slightly through the day, a few bubbles.
10678 28 Oct 2018 @ 1436 --- MAB Making this a Note so it will be easier to find than buried in the data. While standing up looking directly into the vent, in flat light, at 30 seconds into the eruption I clearly saw the white of a large steam bubble rising, when suddenly it disappeared, looking like a balloon being sucked back down the hole. I heard the pop and saw the water level change. I never thought you could "see" an implosion, but that's as close as I have come.
9991 02 Sep 2018 @ 1427 --- novakg As I was leaving there were two extremely short eruptions. The first was 5 seconds or less. The second was only slightly longer.
9668 10 Aug 2018 @ 1420 --- MAB Sinkhole across boardwalk towards Cradle Mud area is half full. (!) Sinkhole to the east behind Vixen still holding runoff.
9210 15 Jul 2018 @ 1930 --- MAB 1825-1950 observations from CB-separated by request: Time approximate: Vixen platform & runoff channel is wet, water pooled in its tube but I did not see an eruption in the 15 minutes I observed.
19287 15 Jul 2018 @ 1825 --- research-mab 7-15-2018 CB VIXEN 1825 See Note under Steamboat Vixen platform & runoff channel is wet, water pooled in its tube but I did not see an eruption in the 15 minutes I observed. Pearl still has a yellow hue. Porkchop water is back up to the rim of the pool. Green dragon runoff is again clear however the runoff channels are coated in brown. Yellow funnel has no visible water but I can hear deep grumbling with splashing down deep. Echinus water level is good with nice runoff and a weak 2 vent boil. (hum!) Crater Spring water is LOW and murky brown/gray. Emerald Spring is the same, clear, green with weak convection waves. https://geysertimes.org/note.php?id=9202
19273 27 Jun 2018 @ 1800 --- research-mab 6-27-2018 VIXEN = 1800 CB see Note under Steamboat Vixen is back to more regular play. The steam vent by Vixen is quieter. Pearl has bubbles breaking the surface. Pork chop is down about 4" from the rim. Green dragon is putting out chocolate brown runoff. Yellow funnel is way low, muddy brown and turbulent. Blue mud steam vents water/mud is not visable. Crater Spring water level is low as is Echinus. Echinus run off channel is dry in many areas. This back basin is much the same as last night except for Vixen. sorry for the long note! Forgot about Emerald. . . cuz it is the same! Boiling in the East thumb, green and fairly clear. https://geysertimes.org/note.php?id=8912
8506 06 Jun 2018 @ 1818 --- CrisG Sitck has been removed by rangers. Penny remains in drain hole.
8486 06 Jun 2018 @ 1335 --- novakg After returning from Whirligig and lunch, discovered someone had thrown a stick at Vixen's vent and threw a penny into Vixen's recycling hole across the boardwalk. Informed two rangers and asked them to remove the objects.
8441 04 Jun 2018 @ 1000 --- novakg Vixen drained down in vent, almost out of view. Slow refill with water bobbing and the fill finally reaching first beach. Then, after convective bubbles, a stealth start.
8436 03 Jun 2018 @ 1544 --- novakg I sent a 15 year old sciency girl down to Vixen. She reported back, "Vixen is the best geyser I have seen so far."
8113 07 May 2018 @ 1000 --- MAB Sinkhole east of Vixen is holding water.
7692 07 Oct 2017 @ 0926 07 Oct 2017 @ 1610 MAB Low pool strong nozzle like eruptions with strong forced steam, forced light water, or forced heavy water with no apparent pattern. Have seen this before in May of 2014 but those were separate eruptions, this continued for 6.5 hours. Staff reports it was normal separate eruptions yesterday, all with drains.
6243 09 Sep 2017 @ 1545 --- sfavor interval very short. 2 to 3 minutes.
5487 28 Aug 2017 @ 1410 --- ge from 14:10 to 14:55 two 12-15 min majors(?) and numerous minors
4272 07 Jun 2017 @ 1637 --- novakg Water covered first beach.
4225 06 Jun 2017 @ 1213 --- novakg First Beach covered.
