Note: | 7/30/1981: Sunday doesn’t drain as it has in weeks past. The eruption now takes place out of numerous vents apparently along a fissure. As seen from Africa, the left vent erupts the highest (closest to trail), but the former major vent still has bursts to equal it. Boiling and small eruptions are continuous through the quiet period. Africa is filling higher in the crater again. It still fills in concert with Sunday preplay. Africa is filling to 2 inches from the rim. The strongest part of
Sunday’s major seems to come with start of drain of Africa. After major activity subsides in all vents, the old major vent has some six foot bursts, but soon quiets to 2-3 feet doming. Report and observations by Grover Schrayer III |
