The eruption consisted of dark black water and mud surging with powerful bursts. Chunks of debris could be seen as they were expelled from the pool." An e-mail from park geologist Hank Heasler on pg. 33 reads: "The depth of mud was about 4.5 cm containing small {<2 cm} angular clasts of soft siliceous sediments. The mud apron was approximately 16 meters wide by 11 meters long with two mud lobes extending an additional 7 meters to the northeast of the pool. The mud covered pre-existing ejecta in the area. New ejecta consisted of blocks of soft siliceous sediment and silicified conglomerate. Most ejecta ranged from 10 to 30 cm in size." |
