| Comments: | Steamboat erupted on the first truly sustained push event seen in my 4+ day wait. 0611 and 0612 North Vent thick short verticals to the height of the trees, followed by South Vent taking over with raging river runoff. 0615 strong South Vent minor producing raging river but not much out of North. 0617, 0621, and 0622 very strong concerted minors with North Vent to 40+ feet, followed by the eruption start at 0623. 5 minutes into the eruption North Vent started bursting action but there was never a full choke. Bursting continued from North Vent with strong continuous South Vent for the next 55 minutes. At almost exactly 0723 there was a slight wind shift and North Vent roared into steam. I did not get a height measurement but estimate the tallest bursts from North Vent were about 380 feet. Viewing conditions were excellent from both platforms with wind blowing away from us. There was no fog and the sun rose from behind the hill for a beautiful backlit eruption. When we left the platform at 1047, Steamboat was still in strong steam phase with no attempts to revert back to water. |
