Comments:very spectacular but short eruption! First heard from the museum at 1600 and ran down to see it playing to full height from all 3 main vents with the northwestern vent still going an estimated 120 feet. Sharp thumps or detonations could be felt underfoot at a distance of 28 feet. A new hole which started to develop last summer between the main -NW- vent and the second vent was also active; shooting horizontal bursts out to a distance of 22 feet. The second vent had been vigorously playing as a vertical jet in excess of 20 feet while the 3rd or southeastern vent had fountain type bursts reaching higher than 40 feet. With virtually no warning and requiring only about 30-40 seconds the geyser aborted its eruption completely after having played 8 minutes. There was no steam phase and for quite awhile no minor play
