Comments:1-14-82 Steamboat Geyser in late steam phase in mid pm when observed during heavy snow fall {1400} hrs. Ice formations runoff channels water level in Cistern Spr etc suggest that it had its 4th major eruption since 1978 yesterday P.M. Reported in AM today via radio.... Last eruption was 6/18/79 at 1526 MDT. Sand was on the old snow & buried by today’s snow for est a distance of about 200m to the NE. Sand & gravel were washed over the boardwalk at the 2 runoff channels at the base of the hill. All of the packed snow was melted away in these sections & about 50cm of alluvia was removed below the boardwalks in the east {main} channel. Interval since eruption of 6/18/79 was approximately 941 days or about 31 months. On 1-12-82 minor play of Steamboat was noticeably higher & more massive but no significance was interpreted.
