20424 24 Aug 1987 @ 1200 --- research-mab 8/24/1987 Blue Mud SteamVent is incredible. The center two vents, as...noted, have an incredible dark frothy foam coming out of them. I watched for about 15 minutes. The largest burst I saw was to 4’. The foam reminded me of a “fast forward” movie of some active mud pots. No foam can be seen in the 2 side vents. [generic day time]

20488 01 Jan 1985 @ 0000 --- research-mab NOTE: Little to no mentions of Blue Mud Steam Vent in 1985 and 1986 in logbooks or reports - description in Aug 1987 implies they know what it looked like - if I find any I will enter them but may not remember I put this here - Lack of reports isn't that I skipped a year or two

20485 15 Nov 1981 @ 1200 --- research-mab Nov 15 1981 ... back to Norris to take some temps...it’s good to be back to the basin & see all the changes that have occurred over the past month & a half. There was an earthquake measuring ~3 on the Richter centered in the Crazies a few days ago. This may account for the increased turbidity in many of the features. Also the amount of H2O outflow from the Back Basin particularly seems to be much higher than it was this summer. This could be partially due to snow melt as we have 15-20 inches on the ground now, but not entirely I don’t think. Anyway...Blue Mud Steam Vent Gray slightly turbid H2O – vigorous boil to 1½’ in center vent – superheated 206° [generic day time]
