Orby 1544-1600
Water level is low - the first sign of an eruption is the rumbling noise coming from the crater!
Some pauses restart and after 30 sec duration the crater is flooded, otherwise it's low in volume and height. There were some quick turnarounds that others might have combined into the 1st eruption. It takes concentration!
I will enter what I have, some may be combined into 1 entry if GT thinks they are too close together.
Interesting. |

Orby is still going gang busters. erupting every minute or so. The Cousin or Wineticicly is steaming and gurgling deep inside the crater but no water visible |

Orby starts from a empty crater. It spashes up to 2' with a thick, wide, puffball appearance and fills as the eruption progresses. All the eruptions I saw, the pool stayed within its crater and did not overflow. It erupts for a few minutes and then abruptly stops and the pool drains completely. The water is a muddy light brown color. (think chocolate milk)
* * *The Cousins feature that is to the west of Orby> The main, center vent that in June had a pool that was high and perpetually erupting is now erupting deep down in the vent. The only water I could see today was the tips of the splashes that barely reached the height of the platform. The platform is dry. This was observed from the boardwalk above Orby and just beyond Yellow Funnel Spring |

tried to start at the 1116 mark but pool dropped. it continued to bubble but no actual eruption. Pool stayed at low level (4" from overflow) while it just bubbled barely breaking the surface. 1125 pool started to fill again. 1127 dropped with very weak bubbles. 1128 no bubbles in the pool, pool quiet. 1134 pool filling. 1136 dropped. 1141 filling. 1144 dropped. from 1144 - 1245 the pool would do a filling/drop cycle with a bubbling that occationally would bloop but not erupt. |

Orby is calm, not even putting out pulsing waves. The main vent of The Cousins is erupting to 8" but the side vent (or other cousin) is quiet. The spouter between the Cousins and Orby was not erupting. |

Dark muddy eruptions. Hard to time them with 'Disturby' next door stealing the show. It appears that Orby would alternate short (30 sec) then long (60 sec) eruptions. The eruptions from the vent to the NW appear to grow in size when Orby is erupting. At times it has an overflowing pool, other times it shows the edges of the crater. In size it looks like a Whirligig eruption, in dark brown. Tom C thought the NW vent had enlarged since yesterday. |

19 Apr 2019 @ 0925 RMICHAELS ORBY See Note under Steamboat
Boardwalk to Steamboat is open. Steamboat very quiet. Only occasional splashing from either vent. South Vent runoff channel completely dry. Cistern in light overflow with one boil in center. Suspect there may be ongoing disturbance affecting at least the back basin because two features near Orby were having muddy eruptions. Porkchop also had no water in it. I didn't do a full tour of the back basin but it appeared from a casual glance that many typically quiet features were erupting or had more water than usual. I spaced out looking at Emerald to see if it was cloudy/boiling. I believe others made more detailed observations.

Hard to say what's going on here- eruptions were in multiples of 30 seconds. With more observations I/we may decide that the pauses and quick restarts are all part of the same eruption, which would then total about 90 second total duration. |

A small geyser spouter has become active about 90’ NW of the feature north of Yellow Funnel which is marked as “vigorous boiler” on the USGS Norris Thermal Map - has periodic play every 45-90 seconds, shooting water up 6-12 inches & a few times 13 or 14 inches. [Note 'vigorous boiler' on 1966 USGS is Son of Green Dragon - generic end of day time] |
