Steamboat on the 8th day was little different. No change in eruptive pattern was observed. From 9:03 am to 9:33 am, there were 6 shots from the south vent while the north kept up the splashing behavior of yesterday. From 10:49 am to 11:19 am, there were 7 bursts from the south vent: the north vent had one burst to about 15’ with the south vent. At 11:55 am there was the strongest burst yet today from the south vent: about 30 feet with a good overflow. Then at 12:10 pm, the south vent threw a burst at least 50 feet with no simultaneous action from the north vent. From 2:05 pm to 2:35 pm, the south vent played only 4 times while there was no good action from the north vent. From 3:55 pm to 4:25 pm, the south vent shot 6 times with a few complementary bursts from the north vent.
Except for a few squirts, there was scarcely any runoff. The water level remained high – perhaps 4 feet from the lip. |
