Note: | 09/09/1971 Africa behaving unusually today; its runoff contained moderately turbid water; from 2:15PM on the interval between eruptions ranged from 43 to as short as 26 minutes with the average being 34 minutes (compared to 92-75 min with an average of 84.5 on Sept. 2). Africa also had its longest known eruption. At 5:45 it played for 9 minutes compared to the usual 4 or 5; the pool then drained and went into a “steam phase” with bursts of water or steam going 5-20 feet for an additional 12 minutes until Fan began playing; then for the final 18 minutes before the next eruption it continued to splash water out of the pool instead of having its usual quiet empty or full phase) |
